Jean Edwards is one of our Ambassadors and a former Trustee of the Foundation. She was called to the Bar and later trained as a primary school teacher. She was a Magistrate in the Inner London Juvenile Courts for 25 years, and a volunteer with Voluntary Reading Help.
Jean was a Trustee and Chair of the Wates Foundation and one of the original Trustees and the second Chair of the newly formed Association of Charitable Foundations.
She is particularly interested in education, social welfare and community support. She has handed over the management of her own charitable fund to the Foundation, which enabled her to make grants to local charities and community groups of which she would have been entirely unaware without the guidance of the Foundation. She is convinced that this move has been of enormous value to her in giving her the opportunity to meet people often doing wonderful and unsung work in the county of Dorset.
